Free Consultation (For Back, joint and health care therapies)
Our treatments require us to assess your suitability before any treatment plan can be recommended. We take a great deal of care over this and we do it completely free of charge as part of our commitment to making treatment affordable and giving you the best possible service. On the day of your consultation you will be met by one of our Patient Advisers who will have some paperwork for you, and then introduce you to your practitioner. You will be with us for around 15-20 minutes, where a full case history will be taken in regards to your current complaint and your past medical history, and afterwards your practitioner will explain the next steps.
Providing your practitioner deems the treatment appropriate the next stage after the consultation is an ‘assessment and treatment’ if you are seeing a chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist. If you are seeing a sports therapist or massage therapist your assessment will be carried out at the beginning of your first appointment.
An ‘assessment and treatment’ is a 40 minute appointment where a series of orthopaedic and clinical tests will be carried out, followed by a diagnosis and then treatment.
Orthopaedic and clinic tests are used to locate the tissue or structure that is causing your pain and rule out any other possible causes. We may check your reflexes and blood pressure and possibly refer you for blood tests or imaging if we feel you need them. Please note that you may be asked to remove some items of clothing for this as it is important to see how your body is moving. We provide disposable hospital style gowns and dressing gowns, however, if you do not feel comfortable with this please bring gym wear or loose comfortable clothing.
Treatment is different for every patient but may include techniques such as different types of soft tissue massage (in which a cream or oil may be used) and joint articulation, stretches, and joint manipulations – this is dependent on the type of treatment you will be receiving, and your diagnosis.
Sometimes, when osteopaths or chiropractors move joints you may hear a ‘click’. To find out more about why you may here this sound, see this blog post.
Practitioners are happy to discuss any findings and diagnosis and you are welcome to ask questions at any stage.
Chaperones are welcome at all appointments and encouraged for patients aged 16 or younger, but are not essential for patients over this age.
Wellness and On-going Care
An important part of our commitment to you is ensuring that once you experience the results of your treatment, they’re lasting ones.
Very few issues are resolved in one treatment, and Freedom Clinics are proud to offer you on-going care and service with options including follow-up treatments, lifestyle advice and information which will also show you how to remain free from any discomfort or future relapses. This may include exercises, stretches or other minor lifestyle adjustments for example your work place ergonomics.
Following your assessment and treatment or first appointment your practitioner will talk you through when you should return to the clinic and anything you will need to do in the interim. How soon you will need to return to the clinic depends on your diagnosis and the level of pain you are experiencing.
We take data protection very seriously and you can be sure that all the information you provide will be handled in the strictest confidence.
