There are many factors which may cause infertility; such as stress, irregular hormone levels and disrupted menstrual cycles. Acupuncture is a proven treatment which can help to identify and correct those underlying health issues. For example, fertility acupuncture can:
- Increase blood flow to the uterus, thus thickening the uterine lining, which improves the chances of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall
- Reduce anxiety, stress, and hormones secreted during stressful situations – such as cortisol – which significantly decreases fertility
- Normalise the systems that regulate ovulation, especially in women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
- Improve the function of the ovaries to produce higher quality eggs
- Regulate hormones to produce more follicles
- Regulate the menstrual cycle
- Decrease the possibility of miscarriage
- Increase sperm quality (volume, count, motility, morphology) to create better quality embryos
I just wanted to say how impressed I was with my visit to Freedom. The premises are fantastic; bright, cheerful and clean. I was made to feel welcome, and everyone is very professional. The whole experience was great.

How does fertility acupuncture work?
Fertility acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on the body which reside on channels or meridians; pathways in both the exterior and interior of the body. When these points are needled, it can regulate the way in which the body functions.
When can you start treatment?
Acupuncture is a process-oriented method of medical intervention, similar to physical therapy. You cannot over treat and in fact it is better to do more than less. In average patients are treated for three to four months before progressing to insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), or donor-egg transfer. This pacing of treatment seems to have a therapeutic effect.
Women are encouraged to receive acupuncture treatments pre and post embryo transfer, and the most effective fertility treatments, according to studies, involves a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional medicine. Though conception occasionally occurs when acupuncture and herbal medicine are used without traditional medical interventions.
How many treatments would you require?
Our fertility acupuncturist will provide you with a comprehensive diagnostic and clinical program, which will establish the factors of why you are having difficulties getting pregnant and then targets those issues.
Based on those findings, we will then tailor a treatment package according to your needs.
Are there any risks?
There are minimal risks attached to using acupuncture for fertility treatment. Acupuncture is a safe method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and improve function.
The side effects are also minor. You can experience your original symptoms worsening for a couple of days after an acupuncture treatment, such as changes in appetite, sleep, urination patterns, or emotional state. Though this is indications that the acupuncture is starting to work.
What types of fertility patients typically get acupuncture?
Any fertility disorders can be treated with acupuncture, including spasmed tubes, as spasmed tubes often gets de-spasmed with acupuncture.
Acupuncture can help repeated pregnancy loss, unexplained (idiopathic) infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with anovulatory cycles, and male factor including men affected with sperm DNA fragmentation.
