How does it work?

The use of high-frequency sound waves, produces real-time and dynamic images of the affected area, which allows us to inject with accuracy, minimising pain and delivering the medicine precisely where it is intended. Using this method our doctors can visualize surrounding structures, before, during and after the procedure.

Ultrasound guided injections also give us an advantage of real time, dynamic feedback that the patient and the doctor can see immediately.
Ultrasound gives us the ability to see joints, tendons and the surrounding soft tissue structures such as blood vessels and nerves. There is no risk of radiation.

The procedure is performed under aseptic conditions within our clinic and takes approximately 30 minutes.
You may experience a numb sensation in the treated area for up to 4 hours after the treatment if a local anaesthetic is used. Therefore patients are advised to attend with a friend or family member. Additionally, travel arrangements will need to be made as you may not be able to drive for a few hours.

What areas of the body can be treated?

The most common areas of treatment are in the hip joint, shoulder and knees but can be used to treat other structures throughout the body.

At Freedom Clinics, we offer an innovative knee osteoarthritis treatment, administered by our consultants in sports and exercise medicine. This procedure is ideal for patients seeking effective pain relief without surgery.

Our specialised injection involves a non-degradable hydrogel composed of polyacrylamide and water, injected directly into the knee’s joint cavity. This gel cushions the joint, lubricates it, and reduces friction between bones, providing pain relief, improved function, and reduced stiffness.

The Procedure

Expert Care: Our experienced consultant administers the injection with precision and care.

Step-by-Step Process:
